During the month of December we have been very busy making different Winter Holiday Crafts.  We have made poinsettias, snowflakes, Christmas Trees, Gingerbread babies, puppets, jewelry, gift bags, Gingerbread houses, maracas, and Penguin Hats.

Colin's favorite was making the puppets.  Devin's favorite was making the snowflakes.  Owen's favorite was making the Penguin hats.  Shantell's favorite was making the maracas.  Anna's favorite was making the maracas.  Karmen's favorite was making the Penguin hat.  Mileydi's favorite was making the maracas.  NeNe's favorite was making the puppets.  Blythe's favorite was making the maracas.  Ariel's favorite was making the Gingerbread houses.  Simran's favorite was making the poinsettias.  Tristan's favorite was making his snowman.  Zury's favorite was making the maracas.  Kyara's favorite was making her snowman.  Ahmad's favorite was making his snowman.  Ahrian's favorite was making the poinsettias.  Kenly's favorite was making maracas.  Fareed's favorite was making the maracas.

Mr. Evans bought us a Math Balance Scale.  Mrs. Kingston picks a number from 1-10 and puts a weighted blue hanger on that number.  The students then tell what 2 numbers have the same value as that number, and they put 2 blue weighted hangers on them.  For example- 7 has the same value as 2 and 5.  We love the balance. 

We have started putting objects onto our Winter Pictures.  We can earn stars, a moon, trees, and a rabbit.  We are learning our address, the 4 seasons, how to tie our shoes, the days of the week, the months of the year, counting to 100 by 10s, remembering our lunch/computer number, and our phone number.  The students are doing fantastic!
 
We are doing rotations several afternoons a week.  Our rotations are:  Big Books, Art, Poetry, Computer, ABC, Write Around The Room, and Word Work.  Owen's favorite rotation is Art.  Zury's favorite rotation is Computer.  Devin's favorite rotation is Computer.  Mileydi's favorite rotation is Computer.  Aidan's favorite rotation is Computer.  Shantell's favorite rotation is Computer.  Blythe's favorite rotation is Write Around The Room.  Ariel's favorite rotation is Big Books.  Karmen's favorite rotation is Art.  Simran's favorite rotation is Computer.  NeNe's favorite rotation is Computer.  Anna's favorite rotation is Computer.  Tristan's favorite rotation is Computer.  Kenly's favorite rotation is Computer.  Kyara's favorite rotation is Computer.  Fareed's favorite rotation is Computer.  Ahrian's favorite rotation is Write Around The Room.  Ahmad's favorite rotation is Computer.  Colin's favorite rotation is Computer.

Celebration 11/04/2011
 
Today we had our first Writing Celebration.  We have been working on writing stories about things that are important to us.  We created a cover for our story and a title.  We ate cookies and juice, and then we read our published stories to our friends.  We felt happy, excited, and proud.   

This week our Shared Reading has been a Big Book called Yes, Ma'am. This story was about animals and a boy who had to take care of them.  Our class made animal head bands, so that the students could act out the story.  We made dogs, cats, donkeys, cows, and ponys.  The students did a great job acting out the story.   

Today we get to go to the treasure box if we have been on green all week.  NeNe likes to get chocolate.  Devin likes to get Tootsie Rolls.  Owen likes to get chocolate.  Blythe likes to get candy.  Ariel likes to get Smarties.  Kenly likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Anna likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Ahmad likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Zury likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Shantell likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Mileydi likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Karmen likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Tristan likes to get lollipops.  Kyara likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Aidan likes to get lollipops.  Ahrian likes to get a Sticky Hand.  Fareed likes to get candy.  Colin likes to get toys.  Simran likes to get lollipops.  If anyone would like to donate toys, pencils, stickers, candy, etc. to our Treasure Box the kids (and Mrs. Kingston) would be so happy!

School Rocks 10/26/2011
 
This morning during word work time we learned a new Word Wall Word and it was "to".  We learned how to spell the word "to".  We used the word "to" in sentences.  We then drew pictures of what we like to do and used the pictures to fill in the blank:  I like to _________. 

Reedy is our class dog.  Reedy gets to go home with one student on Fridays.  The student that gets to take Reedy home is a student that stays on the green all week.  When the student takes Reedy home they have to take good care of him.  They also have a journal to write in.  They write or draw all about their adventures with Reedy.  On Monday morning the student brings Reedy back and reads the journal. 

What we like to do:  Shaakira likes to make pumpkins at school.  Simran likes to eat snack.  Owen likes to eat snack also.  Devin likes to read with Reedy.  Tristan likes to go to the treasure box.  Blythe likes to write sentences.  Ariel likes to read books.  Colin likes to have snack.  Anna likes to go to the treasure box.  Karmen likes go to the treasure box.  Ahrian likes to eat snack.  Aidan likes to read books.  Fareed likes to eat snack.  Zury likes to go to the treasure box.  Shantell likes to go to the treasure box.  Kyara likes to go to Art class.  Kenly likes to play outside.  Ahmad likes to play with Reedy.

Today during our phonics/reading lesson we read words!  Some of the words were hat, sat, rat, bam, and mat.  We also read a book called Bugs.  We are such good readers. 

We have a new chrysanthemum in our room.  It is pink and white.  It is beautiful.  We loved when Mrs. Kingston brought it in.  We are keeping it by the window so it can grow and get sunlight.  Some of our students think the mum makes our room smell good.

During math today we used a number line to fill in the missing numbers.  For example, 6, ____, 8 (7 goes in the blank).  The students did a great job!

Our First Blog! 10/10/2011
 
Today we had a neat surprise.  Mrs. Kingston brought us a Hermit Crab.  He will be our class pet.  We voted on what our pet hermit crab's name would be.  Some of the choices were: Spike, Jet, SpongeBob, Kermit, Computer, Reedy 2, SeaShell, Cutie, Rapunzal, Michelle, Shell, People, and Justin.  We decided to name him Spike!  While we were in PE Spiked moved from one side of his cage to the other side.  We thought that was so cool. 

Math was good today.  We practiced our 4's, we glued shapes next to numbers, and drew 4 pictures. 

During recess Owen and Colin do cool stuff like going on missions.  Zury, Kenly, Blythe, and Karmen play in the sandbox and princesses.  Ariel plays with a student in another classroom.  NeNe, Mileydi, Shantell, Anyla, and Karmen pretend to play dress up.  Tristan and Devin play chase.  Amari and Ahrian play in the sand.  Fareed plays in the sandbox.  Tabitha and Simran play with students from another class.  Aidan plays with students from another class.  Ahmad plays with his cousin the playground.   Shaakira plays with her sister.  We have a great time!
